Home Theater Wall

So for the home theatre wall we'd like to install french doors opening outward. We'd like to enclose the area for a few reasons: Firstly, for privacy from the rest of the basement, Secondly, to stop sound from travelling throughout the house when we're watching movies, thirdly, so we can maintain a specific level of lighting without affecting other areas of the basement.

Before: Existing door to this side of the basementAngle from further away
Opposite angle, after existing door has been removed
Begining of frame work. Building of secure framing under the ducts

Boys over for a lil coax run

Got the boys over on the weekend of Jan 28th to help run the coax cables for satellite.

G... with his infinite wisdom and technical expertise had the wires in fairly fast... we spent more time trying to fix an old cable connection than running the new wires. His big hands came in handy. i dont like the way you're holding that drill bit though.

Hero... lended a helpful hand with his 7 foot height and skinny fingers... ok fine i shouldnt say anything, he knows more about satellite than i do

Status update

Framing is about 85% complete. Onto the last few walls, might take a little longer than some of the other walls. Securing the top plate for the framing is going to be a challenge, there is low hanging ducts and electrical wiring in the way. We're going to box the soffits and then build the wall under the soffit. Hoping to have the framing complete in the next 2 weeks, then onto wiring.

Oh and we did a little shopping in between framing on saturday. Picked up a box or two of laminate flooring and a bunch of 2x4's and 2x2's for framing and soffits. Oh, and some electrical outlets and boxes.

Center Channel

Random pic of the center support channel running through the metal studs.

Only a few walls left to frame.. woohoo

Three walls left to frame. Home Theatre screen wall , wall to left and wall to divide the room to separate it from the rest of the basement.

Another Wall Complete

Finished making another wall last weekend. This wall creates the second storage room. Reinforced door way using wood studs instead of metal.
Door way still needs to be finished.

Good Customer Service... yah really... no seriously

Got a courtesy call from Chad at Home Depot on Saturday morning. He had helped us get our initial shopping list together for our first round of purchases. Was really nice of him to drop us a call and see how things are going. Also, a great time to ask him some questions I had.

Anyways, no pictures on this update. We put in good few hours on Sat/Sun and finished framing the first wooden wall (bar area).

Now we're onto one of the hardest areas, an angled wall w/ door around some really low duct work . Fun stuff.
